1. Can rings be done in any color?
A. A. Yes, they can. Please be aware that certain enamel colors look one way in white gold or platinum and look different in yellow gold. The reason for this is that we use transparent enamel and they reflect the surface of the metal.
If you look at our color chart we show rings both in yellow gold and white gold. If you like
a specific color in yellow gold but you prefer white gold, then you must tell us this and
we have a way of getting the color you wish. If we do opaque enamels it does not matter
if you prefer yellow gold or white gold as the color will be the same.
Our color charts are shown if you look under our collection for 2007 and 2008. In both
cases the color chart is on the back cover page. In the 2007 collection they are shown
in 7-860 to 7-880
Since our collection now includes many color stones. We can also do any color stones
in all our stone rings. We use natural color pink and yellow diamonds, black and brown
diamonds as well any color of sapphires such as pink, blue, yellow, orange, and red as
well as green garnets, blue topaz, citrines, amethysts, and peridots.
2. Can I buy individual rings?
A. Yes, of course. That is what makes the collection fun as it allows you to be the designer and make any combinations according to your fashion or mood.
3. Do customers collect Hidalgo rings?
A. Yes. In fact, we have many ladies with over 50 Hidalgo rings. We make matching rings and hoop earrings of all our our rings.
4. Are there famous people wearing the collection?
A. Many. Jewelers tell me all the time and they are the who's who in celebrities, Hollywood, government, social, and industrial sectors. Our celebrities range from the Hollywood young set to 80 year old well known government officials. Recently a magazine featured some rings given to Lindsay Lohan and Mandy Moore for their birthday. They were part of our personalized ring collection. Mandy's ring has her nickname Mimi, and Lindsay's rings echo her tattoos-La Bella Vita and Breathe. A neat question we pose is which celebrity wears a size 2 1/2 ring. Can you guess?
5. What is the metal underneath the enamel?
A. We work with 18K yellow gold, or 18K white gold and platinum. We have recently introduced a collection in silver but only in bracelets, earrings and pendants.
However all our rings are made in 18K gold. We do not make any rings in silver.
6. Can we order rings in any size?
A. Yes. For rings size 8 or larger, we charge 10 % more. For rings that are larger than 10, we charge another 10% more.
7. How long does it take for special orders?
A. 1 month. For the important holidays you can order
by December 10 for Christmas, by Jan 24 for Valentines, and by May 25 for Mother's For the important holidays you can order by December 10 for Christmas, by Jan 24 for Valentines, and by May 25 for Mother's day.
Also, diamond engagement rings take 2 weeks throughout the year. Enamel rings take a bit longer at non holiday times.
Ceramic rings are now available for immediate delivery in sizes 5.5, 6.5 and 7.5 day.
9. Who designs the collection?
A. The collection is designed by Silvio Hidalgo from a wonderful spot in the Virgin Islands and all 18K gold is manufactured around the world. the enamel is done in our place in Miami, Florida. All watches are Swiss made. Mr. Hidalgo is a world traveler having visited 159 countries. Hidalgo was born in Cuba and came to the US as a child. Hidalgo graduated Electrical Engineering and worked for IBM, He later started a computer company and while living in Monte Carlo in the 1980s found his passion for jewelry design.
10. Is it important to give you the correct size in rings?
Absolutely. This is imperative as these rings are very difficult and expensive to resize. Also if the ring has an all around design and it needs to be resized we may have to add a piece of gold to resize it and will not look even all around. Please make sure you have the correct size. If a consumer doen't know the correct size take the ring that is available in stock at your jeweler as a presentation and exchange it for a different size after the Holidays. Do not have a ring made unless you know the size. I am convinced that most husbands do not know the ring size of their wives even when they assure me that they do.
11. Are all rings available all around?
No. We hear from many customers that thought the ring is all the way around when it is not. Please double check this so you are not disappointed. All guard rings are available half way with diamonds or can be ordered all the way around.
Some enamel rings are available all the way around. Sometimes the diamonds and the designs are only half way around. Some enamel rings are just half way around and simply have a gold shank in the back.
Please verify this so you are not disappointed.
We can, however, do any ring all the way around as we do them all one at a time but it takes a bit longer.
12. What are the future plans of the company?
Mr. Hidalgo has expanded into silver jewelry, pens, watches and belts that match his watch straps. Our plans are to develop a lifestyle collection.
13. Do I have to worry about enamel chipping?
The Italians have invented a type of enamel that hardly ever chips and is quite durable, unlike the enamel used until the seventies. If you have a problem, Hidalgo will repair it in their headquarters for a modest charge. Some women can wear the rings for years and nothing happens, others encounter a problem much sooner. In either case it can be repaired and it will look like new.
We also can repair enamel done by others, but the charges are higher and start at $150
14. Do I need special care with Hidalgo's enamel?
Unlike other's company enamel you can use enamel year round and use it even doing household shores. Its biggest enemy is an open flame and harmful acids that will usually hurt your skin more than the ring. It can come in contact with ammonia or other household cleaners and it will not be affected.
15. Why can’t I buy in the Internet?
We want our customers to know what the rings look and feel like before they order them. It is best to visit a store that carries them so you know what they look like in person. Most people like them better in person because the colors look better than in photography.
Once a ring has been made to your size they cannot be cancelled and this is why we prefer that you see them first.
If there is no store near you, I am sure you will see them during your travels. We also offer a one time special order from your favorite jeweler, If there is no jeweler close to you.
If you already know what they look like and you are having problems ordering them from a jeweler, let us know and we will resolve the problem.
16. What is the Hidalgo club?
It is a club that we have organized for those of you who like Hidalgo jewelry. We email you every few weeks or months our new designs and send you our newest brochures first. Also it gives you a forum to tell us some of your ideas.
17. Where can I find the prices?
The prices are in our web for our brochures and our ads. Please log on our website, www.hidalgojewelry.com and search for collections or under advertisements. They feature all the ads we have made in the past few months and years with the prices. If you are looking for a ring we made years ago, please call us and we will give the the password to access collections going back 10 years. We can make any ring we have ever made.
18. Explain to me about the named or personalized rings?
This collection allow you to use the names of your children, grandchildren or loved ones. Also important dates or any phrases that might be important to your loved ones. We usually can fit 3 or 4 names depending on the designs. We can fit more names by using smaller letters and writing those names in two rows. We have even written poems that are significant for you. The rings can be made in yellow, white or pink gold, and they can be done in any color enamel.
19. If I wanted a particular design, can you do it for me?
Probably yes. In addition to our personalized rings we have done over 40 breeds of puppies, most of them as a special request from you. Also if you belong to a particular organization that has a particular symbol or name we can do that as well. We have a new collection of signs and symbols and we are adding new ones every week due to your requests.
20.Can I order rings that I saw years ago?
If we still have the mold, we can go back and do it. Describe to us the ring by email and we will try to match it. Many of our most popular rings we have reintroduced in the last few years, so you may see them in more current brochures or catalogs.
21. Can I order rings in yellow or white gold mixed?
Yes you can. One of the reasons we do stackable rings is that it is very easy and very pretty to mix white, yellow and pink gold together. And then when the trend goes away, you can still use them in other combinations.
22. How many rings have you designed?
We have probably designed over 6000 rings or about 300 rings over the past 20 years. The great thing is that you can mix and match them. If we use a 5 ring set with 2 sets of guards, the total number of combinations is 27 billion! And that is using one color of enamel! This is why our rings are so popular, because ladies are able to modify their rings by simply changing the guards or the center ring or changing the color. This is why some ladies have 40 rings.
23. Are all your rings stackable?
Some ladies prefer to solder our rings together, but if you do, you are missing the point of mix and matching which have made our rings so popular. But I do know ladies that prefer one wide ring instead of quite a few rings so we try to accommodate you.
24. What does the letter G in your catalog stand for?
If you notice in our catalog each rings has two numbers, like 7-407 and 7-407 G. The G stands for the guards. Although we decided to photograph the rings with those specific guards, you can use any of the guards in the catalog. This is the reason we price them differently.
25. Do you make wedding bands?
Some of our clients use our enamel rings as wedding bands. Other use our insert rings where you can change the color of the insert according to your fashion or mood. The inserts come in any color of enamel or diamonds or color stones. Some ladies get a new insert every year on their anniversary. You can see how pretty changing the colors of the inserts look. Of course, we also have an extensive collection of diamond bands that make great wedding bands and we can do matching engagement rings that can be stacked together perfectly.
26. What does the letter I stand for in the catalog.
It stands for insert as some of our rings are designed so you can change the inside of the ring.
27. How long has the company been in business?
We started the enamel collection in 1992. The company started in 1984. My family had been in the jewelry business for much longer than that.
28 How many rings have you sold?
I wished we had kept a count. By some estimates over 500,000 rings!
29. What is micropave?
Micropave is a wonderful way to set stones in a pave setting where the minimum of gold shows. The diamonds are then able to be set much closer together. The less metal the more light that is reflected and the diamonds look with more sparkle. You can also be more creative in design as the designs will be more delicate in appearance. The next time you visit a jewelry store ask them to show you a regular pave setting and ask them if they have anything in micropave so you can tell the difference. Of course, we hope that you like Hidalgo's micropave settings the best as we are one of the few American designers that specialize in this type of settings. The settings not only apply to diamonds and color diamonds but also to sapphires and other precious stones.
